Report an Error
Found a number that looks wrong, a worked example that does not add up, or text that contradicts the calculator? Ian reads every report himself and fixes confirmed errors. A good report makes the problem reproducible, which is most of the work of fixing it.
Send your report
The fastest way to report
Fill in the form above — it takes about a minute. When you submit, your email app opens with the report already written out and addressed to Ian. No email app set up? No problem: the page also shows the full report text with a copy button, so you can paste it into Gmail or any webmail yourself.
Nothing is uploaded or stored anywhere — the form runs entirely in your browser and only ever talks to your own email.
What to include
Include these five details and most errors can be reproduced and fixed without any back-and-forth:
- Which page. The calculator or page URL where the problem happened, e.g. the fabric size calculator.
- The exact inputs. Every number and setting you entered — stitch counts, fabric count, margins, strand count, assumptions.
- The result shown. What the calculator output for those inputs.
- What you expected, and why. The number you believe is correct and how you arrived at it — your own hand calculation is ideal.
- Your device and browser. For example: iPhone with Safari, or Windows laptop with Chrome — layout and input bugs often depend on it.
A screenshot is welcome but never required: a plain description of what you see on screen, typed into the form, is enough.
What happens after
Ian reviews each report personally, reproduces the inputs, and checks them by hand against the formula. If the site is wrong, the calculator or text is fixed and the correction is noted. If the site turns out to be right, you will get an explanation of the math so you can see why. Either way, reports that include the five details above get the fastest answers.
Frequently asked questions
How long until a reported error is fixed?
Most small math errors are corrected quickly once they can be reproduced — the five details above are usually enough. Anything that needs a formula change is re-checked by hand before it goes live.
What if I'm not sure it's an error?
Report it anyway. A result that is technically right but worded confusingly is still worth knowing about — expectation mismatches are often how unclear explanations get found and rewritten.
Can I report without a screenshot?
Yes. You can describe what you see in words — the inputs you entered and the result shown — instead of attaching anything. The details in the list above are what matter.
