Terms of Use
Cross Stitch Calculator is free to use, maintained by Ian Welkins. These terms are written in plain language and cover what the site offers, what the numbers mean, and what is expected of visitors.
Free to use
The homepage calculator plus nine tool pages — design size, fabric size, material, Aida, linen, floss, hoop, time, and price — are free to use with no account and no payment. You may share links to any page.
What the results are
Some outputs are exact arithmetic from your own inputs: finished design size (stitch count divided by fabric count), fabric cut size (finished size plus your margin on every side), and the hoop that fits a given design. If the inputs are right, these results are right.
Other outputs are planning estimates built on assumptions you control: floss skeins (based on a stitches-per-skein rule of thumb), stitching time (based on your stitches-per-hour pace), and price (based on your hourly rate and materials cost). The defaults are common rules of thumb, adjustable on each page — tune them to your own stitching before buying supplies or quoting a buyer.
The calculators are planning tools, not professional advice. They do not replace a framer's guidance, a tax professional's advice, or your own judgment about what a finished piece is worth.
No warranty
The tools are provided as-is. They are hand-checked against manual calculations, including edge cases, but mistakes are possible — check the result against your pattern before cutting expensive fabric. If you find an error, reporting it helps everyone; see report an error.
Fair use
Do not misuse the site: no scraping that degrades the service for others, no attempts to break or bypass anything, and no presenting the calculators as your own work. The content and calculation logic remain the property of the site.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the site grows. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms. Questions about the terms can be sent to ianwelkins@gmail.com.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the calculators for work I sell?
Yes. The calculators are free for personal projects and for commercial ones — pricing a piece for sale, planning supplies for a stitching business, or checking fabric for a commission are all fine.
Is there a usage limit?
No. There are no accounts and no usage limits. Use the tools as often as you like.
What if a calculator gives a wrong result?
Email ianwelkins@gmail.com and the error will be investigated. See the report an error page for what details make a report easiest to check.
